Blasted Dog

Our Dogs got loose we recently expanded their fence so they have more space however they keep finding little places to get out and since they saw us working in the garden they want to work in the garden.

First they brought in our neighbor's trash to our front yard

then they dug through the garden area

... some items like the carrots and the sweet corn wasn't doing to great anyway we will probably replace them

Garden Transplant Day!

We decided this year to place the garden near our main entry door. The reasoning is because if we place it anywhere else we will not check on the garden enough.

The first order of business was to clear the existing turf and place the frames for the raise garden.

Originally I wanted to space each one about a 1' apart but we ran out of space and time so we placed them all side by side.

After getting the turf removed we tilled the ground to break it up. I should've tilled the compost but I wasn't thinking at the time.

Thankfully my father-in-law gave us this amazing tiller. And it made the work super easy.

The little helpers are here they helped fill the wheelbarrow and move it. I thank God for their help

We actually used all of the compost!!! I couldn't believe it some of the frames didn't get that much :(. As you can see by the ambient lighting the sun has sat.

We were in such a rush we forgot where we planted what so it is going to make for an interesting year

Our next step is to eventually convert that down spout into a rain barrel but for now it just directs all the water to what I think is a melon... we shall see

Free compost

So I found out through a friend that we can get free compost from the local dump site. Sometimes there are rocks, and plastic and some other trash in it but over all it is pretty good.

So after our previous post of going to the dump on the way back we picked up some.

And boy was that an adventure. I tried to be smart about it by attempting to back the trailer into the dumpster so it would be easier to shovel the compost in.

The dumpster was wide enough just that it was too high for the tires to easily roll over. Which turns out I moved the shackle on the leaf spring on one side of the trailer making it impossible to drive home fully loaded. I eventually had to go home pick up some tools and return later that day to pick up the trailer.

Nevertheless our trailer is 4'x8' and I got between 1'-2' of compost. Lets just be conservative on estimating the savings 4'x8'x1' = 32 cubic feet of compost. I think lowes had compost for $7 per cubic foot. So 7* 32 = $224

Sadly we lost the whole day tomorrow we shall get the gardens ready.

Trip to the Dump

We purchased a new to us truck this year and are putting it to work. Today we are dumping the remaining trash from dumping

I hate Ants!

Anyway we are off to the dump! Sorry about the ants I don't like ants.
